Paul Wigmore has now written a celebratory hymn 'Music sounds the joy' and John Barnard has composed the music to be known by the name 'Cumbria'. This is dedicated to Mark Swinton, our new Director of Music, and to Holy Trinity Church, Kendal.
Paul is one of the UK's most prolific writers of hymns and texts for Church use, probably best known for having penned the words to the popular Christmas piece by Paul Edwards, "No small wonder."
Meanwhile, John Barnard is a leading composer of Church music (and hymn tunes in particular) with works published on both sides of the Atlantic; among his more familiar compositions is the hymn tune "Guiting Power" which is sung to the words "Christ triumphant, ever reigning."
Both men have collaborated on numerous works for churches, schools and concerts, and are together members of the Jubilate Group which supplied a wide range of words and music for worship. http://www.jubilate.co.uk/
Yet to be performed here, we are confident the hymn will be used on many occasions and become widely known.
