This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War. In addition, Remembrance Day and Sunday both fall on the same day.
To mark this significant occasion, there will be a Drumhead service in the Market Place. The public are asked to muster there at 10.15am, after which the service will begin, with wreath laying and the Act of Remembrance.
There will be a further service for the town in the evening at 6.15pm, at which the names of all those from Kendal who were killed in the First World War will be read out. The service will conclude with a piper’s lament, ‘Battle’s O’er’, a declaration of by the Town Crier and the ringing of the church bells as part of the national tribute.
For those who wish to mark the occasion in the parish church in the morning, there will be services at 9.30am and 11.15am, with a two minute silence marked at 11.00am.
